Riyan Parag Creates IPL History with Six Consecutive Sixes, Falls Agonizingly Short of Century

In what proved to be one of the most astonishing moments of IPL 2025, Riyan Parag, the stand-in captain of the Rajasthan Royals became the first batter in IPL history to hit six legal deliveries in succession for six sixes. The 23-year old blistering 95 off just 45 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens was in a chase of 207 runs but unfortunately, despite his best efforts, the Royals lost by one run.
Parag's unique record started in the 13th over of the chase. After the Rajasthan Royals were struggling at 102 for 5, Shimron Hetmyer took a single off the first legal delivery from Moeen Ali, which brought Parag on strike. After that, it was carnage, with Parag's four consecutive sixes, followed by a wide, and finally, another maximum over long off. Parag was not done yet. In the next over, by Varun Chakravarthy, Hetmyer took another single off the first delivery, yet again handed Parag the strike and without falter, Parag reverse-swept a sensational six over backward point, completing six sixes in six successive legal deliveries.
The spectacular sequence broke the previous IPL record for most consecutive sixes held by T20 heavyweights Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, and Rinku Singh, who had all managed five, like Parag, in won games typically in second innings chases.
Despite the landmark performance, Parag missed out on his first ever IPL century and was out for 95 in the 18th over, bowled by Harshit Rana, who, after going for run,s was brought back to take the wicket of Parag. His innings included 8 sixes and 6 fours and is his highest score in the IPL.
Rajasthan Royals collapsed from a decent position of 71 for 5 in the 8th over, falling apart early and collapsing in the last overs. After the loss of the top order Parag and Hetmyer led the RR response, nearly pulling off a miraculous comeback, but in the final overs the KKR bowlers held firm to win by one run and kept the hopes of a playoff, with RR eliminated.
Parag’s fireworks re-enabled a bold prediction he made in 2023 when he tweeted, “My inner conscience says I’m hitting 4 sixes in an over at some point this IPL.” On Sunday, he went two better and delighted fans, pundits and past cricketers in an innings that will be remembered long after his IPL career ends.
Addressing the post-match, Parag expressed regret at having not completed the innings. "I was going to stay there until the last ball but I got out in the 18th over. That was my mistake," he said.
However, aside from the fact they lost, it was a turning point for Parag, who has had his share of criticism over the years. In this innings, he showed he could handle pressure, and in addition, he delivered a promise that has took two years for him to finally produce.
Next up for Rajasthan will be a match-up with the Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk and return home to a final league match against the Punjab Kings on May 16th.
