Commentary

We got to witness some exciting cricket over the course of 4 days. The Sri Lankan bowlers were right on the money and their batters came up with a collective effort at the same time. The century by Nissanka, Chandimal's 93, Mendis' aggressive 84 and Jayasuriya's 5-wicket haul were the highlights of the match, but there were some handy contributions by others as well. The Sri Lankan captain took wickets when he came into bowl, Sonal Dinusha was impressive with the ball on his Test debut and Asitha Fernando was quite impactful in the first innings. Apart from their catching in the first innings, Sri Lanka almost ticked all boxes right. Would be interesting to see whether Bangladesh manage to bounce back in the limited-over formats which consists of three ODIs and three T20Is starting Wednesday. This is Nikhil signing off on behalf of Akshay and Mukesh from the Cricbuzz comm box. Ciao for now!
The Sri Lankan captain collects the trophy and hands it over to his team-mates. They now pose with the champions hoarding. Sanath Jayasuriya - their head coach is out in the middle and he too looks a satisfied man.
Dhananjaya de Silva | SL captain: There was difference between the two matches. The bowlers and batters delivered here. The bowlers had their plans and they executed those plans. That's a morale booster for us, we managed to put the opposition under pressure. He (Dinusha) got those crucials breakthroughs with the ball. That's a good sign when you have strong bench strength. He (Nissanka) is performing well in all three formats and I hope he continues doing that.
Shanto | Bangladesh captain: Very disappointing the way we finished. We didn't play well in this Test, so disappointed with that. The way we batted in the first innings, that wasn't up to the mark, that cost us the game. I still feel we should have batted first. The way we got out that wasn't good enough. We made a lot of mistakes with our batting in the first innings. The way we bowled on day 3, was nice to see in such conditions. I hope those guys do well going forward.
Pathum Nissanka | Player of the Match, Player of the Series: He says he was pleased with those two hundreds. He is enjoying being the senior batter and opener in the team. The Galle surface and SSC surface were different. (translated by Roshan Abeysinghe)
10:30 Local Time, 05:00 GMT, 10:30 IST: An emphatic win by an innings and 78 runs as they clinch the 2-match Test series by a 1-0 margin. Bangladesh looked solid in the first Test in Galle as they notched up a solid batting performance, however, they have been a pale shadow of themselves in this particular Test in Colombo. Just like the previous Test, Bangladesh opted to bat first, but they couldn't replicate their batting performance at this venue. The Sri Lankan bowlers were quite impressive on Day 1 of the Test, and despite dropping so many catches, the hosts managed to bowl out Bangladesh for 247 on a pretty decent batting wicket. In reply, Pathum Nissanka played a spectacular knock of 158 to set the platform for SL, while Chandimal and Kusal Mendis made significant contributions to help them gain a massive lead of 211 runs. Such a daunting lead was also going to pressurise the opposition and it was quite evident in Bangladesh's approach in the second innings. The spinners kept choking them throughout the innings and Jayasuriya was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed five wickets to knockout the opposition. All SL needed is 33 deliveries to pick up the remaining 4 wickets on the Day 4 morning. Stay around for the presentations..
44.2Tharindu Ratnayake to Ebadot Hossain, out Lbw!! Ebadot Hossain is the last man out. A flatter delivery around middle, spins in a touch and the batsman gets rapped on the pads. Impact in line and it's crashing into the leg stump, looking at the replays. Ebadot Hossain challenges the umpire's decision, but it's not going to help. No bat involved, and it's crashing into leg stump. Jayasuriya leads the way as he collects a stump and the ball as he starts walking back. A clinical performance by the Sri Lankan spinners indeed. Ebadot Hossain lbw b Tharindu Ratnayake 6(7) [4s-1]
Tharindu Ratnayake to Ebadot Hossain, THATS OUT!! Lbw!!
44.1 Tharindu Ratnayake to Ebadot Hossain, FOUR, tossed up delivery around off, Ebadot Hossain stands tall and thumps it over the bowler's head for a rollicking boundary. He doesn't want to defend, wants to entertain the spectators
Nahid Rana, right handed bat, comes to the crease
43.6 Prabath Jayasuriya to Taijul Islam, out Caught&Bowled!! That's a five-wicket haul for Prabath Jayasuriya. Taijul Islam shimmies down the wicket and chips the tossed up delivery back to the bowler and he makes sure to latch on to a straightforward chance. Kisses the ball and thanks the heavens on taking his fifth wicket of the innings. Such a crucial contribution with the ball this has been by the left-arm spinner. Sri Lanka only one wicket away from registering an emphatic win. Taijul Islam c and b Prabath Jayasuriya 6(15)
