Saud Shakeel is an international cricketer from Pakistan who is the current vice-captain of the Pakistan cricket team in test cricket. He was born in Karachi on 5 September 1995. In 2007, Azam Khan discovered a sixth-grader Saud. He connected him to cricket academies where he received mentorship from international cricketers like Sarfaraz Ahmad and Asad Shafiq.
In October 2015, he made his first-class debut in the 2015-16 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. By November 2017, he was selected to play for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2018 Pakistan Super League. In the 2017-18 Quaid-e-Azam trophy, he stood as the leading run-scorer, with 488 runs in 7 matches.
In December 2018, he was shortlisted for Pakistan’s team for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. In the Pakistan Cup of March 2019, he was part of the Federal Areas’ squad, and in September, he represented Sindh in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy. His hard work paid off in November 2019 when he was named the Captain of Pakistan’s team for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh.
Shakeel joined the Pakistan Test squad for the series against South Africa in January 2021. He was later included in both the Test and limited overs teams for tours to South Africa and Zimbabwe. He made his international debut on July 8, 2021, against England in an ODI match and in October he became the Captain of the Pakistan Shaheens for their Sri Lanka tour.
On 1 December 2022, he made his test debut for Pakistan against England in Rawalpindi. Later, he earned selections for Test squads in series against Bangladesh and Australia, making waves in the cricket world. His breakthrough moment came in January 2023 when he scored his first Test century against New Zealand.
On 6th October 2023, he made his World Cup debut against the Netherlands. Due to his outstanding performance of 68 runs at just 52 balls, he was awarded as the man of the match.
