Virat Kohli, born on 5 November 1988, is an Indian International Cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-armed medium-pace bowler. Kohli is a former captain of the Indian Cricket Team and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Born in Delhi into a Hindu-Punjabi family, his father, Premnath Kohli, worked as a criminal lawyer, and his mother, Saroj Kohli, is a housewife. He has one elder brother, Vikas, and one elder Sister, Bhawna. Kohli has been a cricket lover since childhood. He began playing cricket at the age of 3. His early education was completed at Vishal Bharati Public School.
In 1998, the West Delhi Cricket Academy was formed. His father arranged a meeting with Rajkumar Kumar Sharma, the West Delhi Cricket Academy founder, in May 1998. Kohli’s father wanted him to enroll in this professional cricket academy, as they believed his abilities were more merited than a gully-cricket. Kohli was admitted to West Delhi Cricket Academy but was unable to be selected for the Under-14 Delhi team. But, with more practice and hard work, he found his way into the Under-15 cricket team. Kohli participated in under-15 matches at Sumeet Dogra Academy.
After Kohli’s under-15 performance, in October 2002, he got selected for the Delhi team squad. Kohli played his first domestic cricket match at Luhnu Cricket Ground against Himachal Pradesh. Kohli hit his first half-century at Feroze Shah Kotla, against Haryana, where he scored 70 runs. After his commendable performance in the 2003-2004 season, Kohli was selected as the Captain of the Under-15 team. After becoming a captain, Kohli Delhi defeated Himachal Pradesh by scoring 54 runs. With a score of 119 in the subsequent match against Jammu & Kashmir, Kohli achieved his first century. By the end of 2004, he was selected to play for the Delhi U-17 team in the 2004–05 Vijay Merchant Trophy. Kohli scored 470 runs overall in the four games he participated in, with a high of 251 runs.
In the 2005-2006 season, Kohli scored 227 runs against Punjab. With this highest run rate, Delhi was scheduled to play against Baroda in the semi-finals. In this match, Delhi won by 228 runs.
