Matthew Paul Breetzke, better known as Matthew Breetzke, born on 3 November 1998, is a South African cricketer. He is a right-handed batter and a right-armed medium bowler. In domestic cricket, Matthews represents the Eastern province and South Africa team in International cricket.
Born in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape in South Africa, Matthew is a top-ordered batter and an excellent fielder. He completed his early education at Grey High School. Matthew's goal is clear from his childhood that he has to become a cricketer. At the age of 14, he was included in Grey High’s cricket team.
Matthew made his first debut in cricket while playing for his domestic cricket team Easter Province in the Sunfoil 3-day cup held on 9 February 2017. Through his phenomenal performance in the following match, Matthew was selected for the 2016-17 CSA Provincial One Day Challenge. After this match, he met with a big opportunity to make his T-20 debut on 1 September 2017.
Seeing his domestic cricket performance, Matthew was selected for the South Africa team squad for the 2018 under-19 Cricket World Cup held in December 2017. In July 2018, Matthew was named in the South Africa Emerging squad for Sri Lanka Tour. Matthew was added to the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants squad for the 2019 Mzansi Super League campaign in September 2019.
Matthew was selected for the South Africa Emerging Men's team's six-match Namibia tour in April 2021. Seeing his domestic cricket journey, Matthew made his first International debut in September 2023 in a T20 International match against Australia. He played in two T20I matches against the touring Indian Team in December 2023.
In October 2024, Matthew made his test debut against Bangladesh, playing in the two-match series during the tour of South Africa. He was just dismissed for a duck in his innings of the match.
