Asitha Madusanka Fernando is a Sri Lankan international cricketer who is a right-arm bowler. He was born in Katuneriya, Sri Lanka, on July 31, 1997. When Asitha was chosen for Sri Lanka's Under-17 tour of England, his cricket career officially began. His performance in the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup (where he was Sri Lanka's leading wicket-taker, claiming 11 wickets in six matches) advanced Sri Lanka to the semi-finals of the tournament.
In July 2016, he was part of Sri Lanka’s Test team for their series against Australia. He was also chosen for Sri Lanka's One Day International (ODI) team for the series against Zimbabwe. On July 8, 2017, he made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in the fourth ODI at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium.
He debuted for Chilaw Marians Cricket Club in the 2018 SLC T20 series on January 24, 2018. He was chosen for Sri Lanka's Twenty20 International (T20I) team and Dambulla's Super Four Provincial team for their series against Bangladesh the following month. With six dismissals in three games, he was Dambulla's top wicket-taker in the competition. He was also included in Sri Lanka's Test team for their series against the West Indies in May 2018. He was a part of Colombo's team for the 2018 SLC T20 League in August of that year.
Fernando was selected for Sri Lanka's 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup team in December 2018. He was also a part of Colombo's roster for the 2019 Super Provincial One Day match in March 2019. In the Test series against New Zealand in August 2019, he was a part of the twenty-two-man team of Sri Lanka. Though he was not a part of the final fifteen-man squad for the first Test. In November 2019, he was added to Sri Lanka’s team for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh and the 2019 South Asian Games. After losing to Bangladesh by seven wickets in the final, the Sri Lankan team took home the silver medal.
