RCB vs SRH Clash Moved to Lucknow Amid Heavy Rains in Bengaluru
Due to ongoing heavy rain in South India, IPL 2025 has moved Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s final home match against Sunrisers Hyderabad from Bengaluru to Lucknow. The May 23 match will now take place at Ekana Stadium, following a yellow alert issued for Bengaluru.
The IPL 2025 has permanently moved the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s last home match of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad from Bengaluru to Lucknow after the continued poor weather throughout South India.
The match is now scheduled to be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow after it was originally scheduled for May 23 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, with the Indian Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for Bengaluru forecasting “heavy to very heavy rainfall” through Thursday.
RCB also suffered a severe blow last weekend when their popular home match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was called off on May 17, without a ball being bowled, due to unrelenting rain. Since that time, the team has not been able to leave their hotel, with thunderstorms and heavy rain flooding most of Bengaluru.
Sunrisers Hyderabad was originally set to travel to Bengaluru Tuesday evening but has been told to stay in Lucknow where they last played against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 19. This logistical move saves both teams potential disruption and allows for a much higher possibility of play in what will be their second to last league match.
RCB's last league game that was originally scheduled at Lucknow versus LSG on May 27, is now going to be a part of a double-header at the same venue. Sources report RCB only found out about the change of venue on Tuesday afternoon just before they were going to have an optional training, which was their first since last Friday's abandoned-match preparation.
With 17 points, RCB is in second place, just 1 point behind Gujrat Titans. The venue change may help them, giving them more stability to continue chasing one of the top two finish, and not put themselves in jeopardy if they had to play another abandoned match in Bengaluru.
With the end of league play getting closer and the playoffs beginning, the delays due to poor weather allowed for timely logistical adjustments from IPL officials to allow the tournament to remain intact with no interruptions.
